Who’s Policing Vallejo Police?

For years, families of those shot and killed by police in Vallejo have thrust the city into the spotlight. This diverse former military town by the Bay has often been overshadowed by its larger neighbors like Oakland and San Francisco, which both have long histories of activism. Without those same infrastructures, the families of those killed by police in Vallejo have taken to city hall — with or without support from the community. In this three-part series, The Bay takes you into the homes of some of those families, examines what it means to challenge the police’s narrative, and unravels the breakdown in trust between the community and its police department.
